Why I'm in Rotary:
Using the power of Rotary as a force multiplier to help others in ways one person, alone, cannot do: Simi Sunrise’s Machinist Training Program is but one example of what can be done as a team.
My most memorable Rotary Moment was many years ago on Thanksgiving Day when we substituted for the regular Meals on Wheels drivers in Fillmore and Santa Paula: I took our Sons along to help. One was in Jr. High and the other was in Grade School. They were able to see, first hand, how people lived in extreme poverty, in homes without central heat and plastic on the windows. They were also able to feel the heartfelt gratitude expressed by the people to whom they delivered food. They were deeply affected, and learned a lesson that cannot be taught in school.
What people don't know about me that they should:
I really am a nice person.
Strange, but true:
Hopped freight trains several times around the Inter-mountain West.
Learned first-hand that VW’s really do float. They can also drive up many ski slopes in Park City, as long as the moguls are not too high.
Spent one summer hitchhiking from Salt Lake to San Francisco, down the coast to San Diego, east to Yuma, up to Phoenix, and back to Salt Lake.
Passions, hobbies, interests:
Old cars, specifically restoring Lincoln and Continentals. American Whiskey. Old Books
Favorite place to vacation/visit:
Places without tourists.
Doing make-ups in other states and countries.
One goal I’d like to accomplish during my lifetime:
Develop tolerance for idiots and stupid people.
On my bucket list:
Drive Route 66 back east in our 1965 Lincoln Continental Convertible.
My most embarrassing moment:
This does not apply – there are none.
