Highlights of Today's Meeting
Students Discuss their "Hope Experiment"
John Baxter brought two students Mack Fuhrman and Landen Burtchell, along with advisor Tammy Harter, all from Simi Valley High Schoo's HOSA - Health Occupations Students of America program to talk about a program they recently attended from the City of Hope called "Hope Experiment."
Jaeger's Hardly Strictly Moment
Being that it is Dan's birthday today he read a poem - more like a birthday anthem - titled People My Age.
Hats Off Goes To...
Dan presented this week's award to Bill Fox for arranging the weekly program!
Rat Fink
Tim Shannon was our Rat Fink this morning and shared information about Propositions coming up this November. There are 17 of them on the ballot.
Announcements
Rotary Foundation 100th Anniversary
Deb Davila talked about the fact that it is the 100th year celebration of the Rotary Foundation and that in honor of this milestone members are being asked to donate $26.50.  This number represents the initial deposit made to the Rotary Foundation.  See Deb to donate.
YES! - Youth Empowerment Summit
Demi Fox talked about this year's YES!, which will be held Saturday, November 12th.  Keep that date open because many volunteers will be needed!

Relay for Life - October 1 and 2

Doug Feco talked about this year's Relay for Life and emphasized how cancer has touched everyone of us in this club.  We are hosting our own team and are looking for everyone to fill a spot. Luminaries are also for sale to honor people at $10 each. The event is a 24-hour held at Lemon Park.
Tierra Rejada Clean Up
Sam Wolfe talked about the need for volunteers for our Tierra Rejada Clean Up day planned for this Saturday, September 24th. The other clubs in our district are also participating but we need more members from our club to sign up! Sign up sheets are on the table. See the flyer in this bulletin for more information.
Family of Rotary
Pam Perry reminded everyone that B.J. and her husband Ken will host the first Family of Rotary Gourmet dinner this Saturday, September 24.  They will provide the entree and dessert and everyone else can either bring an appetizer, salad or side dish.
Hats, Sunscreen and Sunglasses Needed
Bill Klepper said he is collecting the above items for Tom Marsh who will be making a trip to Tanzania in October. These items are needed for the high population of albinos in that country.  In Tanzania, albinos represent one in every 1429 births, a much higher rate than in any other nation.
Program
Terry Marvin
Soaring Spirits International
We had the pleasure of hearing from Terry Marvin, a board member for Soaring Spirits International. Soaring Spirits has one goal; to connect widowed people with each other. To date there are more than 3 million people involved.  Their mantra is -- Hope Matters.

She shared details about an upcoming event -- Share the Road Ride - which will be held on Saturday, October 8th.

For more information about this organization and their upcoming events visit their website at - www.soaringspirits.org.

Why I'm in Rotary:
I really enjoy cajun and interacting with people.  I would say giving back with anything we do like bike project is my Rotary moment

What people don’t know about me that they should:
I also do
stand up comedian work sometimes which I have a great time doing.

Strange, but true:
see picture

Passions, hobbies, interests:
Drag racing, raced for 15 years till all tracks went away.  I collect classic cars and have 9, boating, koi fish, riding the Harley with no real place to go.

What I'm really good at:
Listening to
peoples problems , fixing vehicles , raising Koi fish, tennis, cooking.

One goal I’d like to accomplish during my lifetime:
I think
i have already: voted top automotive shop in Simi the last three years.

Favorite place to vacation/visit:
I go to Laughlin a lot

On my bucket list:
Retirement

Most embarrassing moment:
While in the river on a jet-ski, slid off the back and lost all my clothing and never found it - floated down river somewhere
