President Bill opened up the meeting by thanking Larry Borovay and Ryan Valencia for all of their help with the July 3rd Drive In Movie Night.  They had a meeting with the Parks Department and it went very well with the Parks Department thanking Ryan for his leadership.  And with that Ryan received his Rotary Pin from President Bill.  Congratulations Ryan!

President Bill also mentioned he received a card from Gabby Dalino, a past scholarship recipient, thanking the club for helping her further her dream of obtaining a college education.

And, of course, it had to be mentioned that Thursday was Opening Day at Dodger Stadium.  President Bill wanted to know if Eric and Tim would be in attendance????

Furthering his message from last week, President Bill reiterated that this is our moment when we can be the most help to our community.  These are the times when the community needs our support.  So when we see opportunities to help out in the form of fundraisers and other community-related projects, and there will be many to look for this year, please jump in and volunteer.  RISE TO THE OCCASION!

One idea that was mentioned was playing a piano, or any instrument for that matter, in a public area as a way to reduce everyday stress for people.  Calling all musicians!!!!!

Rotary Family News!

Nothing new to share this week.  This is the second week in a row with nothing new to share.  Surely there has to be something new happening out there to our family of Rotarians.  Please share by sending a simple note and it will be posted.

A reminder about our upcoming Movie Night.  Larry let us know that about 25% of the tickets have been sold.  Tickets just went on sale so he expects them to sell out fast at the bargain basement price of $25 per car load.  In addition, $2700 has been raised through corporate sponsorships!

See Larry or Ryan with any questions and here's an opportunity to VOLUNTEER......

Halloween Drive-In Movie
Larry mentioned that the Halloween Drive In Movie will be The Nightmare Before Christmas.  More details to follow....
Drive In Concert
Larry also talked about the possibility of having a Drive In Concert in late September featuring Queen Nation.  Stay tuned for more details.
Vocational Job Seeking Event
Geovanny Ragsdale, Co-Chair of our Vocational Committee, has announced the details of her upcoming Zoom Meeting to help those in the community seeking employment.  Thank you Geovanny!

Happy Face Hill
Leigh Seaton is looking for help this Saturday, July 25 to help spruce up Happy Face Hill.  We will be spraying ecologically and environmentally safe graffiti in order to enhance the Landmark.  Where else can you spray graffiti and not get in trouble?  Meet at Jerry's Coffee Shop at 7, work starts at 8 and shouldn't take more than a couple of hours.

Simi Sunrise Rotary Sign
Leigh Seaton let us know that he has made a new Club Sign, which is a replica of the one that used to hang in the Grand Vista Hotel.  This is a new and improved sign that will be displayed prominently.  THANK YOU Mr. Seaton for all you do for the Club and the Community!!!!
RSVP Reminder
Just a reminder that it is helpful to let us know if you will be attending the Thursday morning meeting in person at the Junkyard.  The RSVP count will dictate the number of chairs put out and the amount of food being prepared.  Thanks!

Demotion is Planned
Note Time Change!
Reminder that everyone should have received an email about Deb's demotion.  Please open it and RSVP today!

While it won't include all the usually stuff, we will be able to celebrate Deb's year and she will be able to thank everyone for their support.

Save the date now: Saturday, August 8 at Kim Schulte's house at 12100 Browns Canyon, Chatsworth from 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m with cocktails from 6-7.  It'll include some great food and social distancing too!

New Member Proposal:
Think about who would make a good member!
=====================
Our Guest Speaker this week was Adam Greenberg

Adam is the owner of the Mad Era Brewing Company, the site of the old Marie Callendar's Restaurant at Madera and Cochran.  He gave us some family  background as well as sharing some horror stories he's dealt with in the process of opening the Brewery.

Adam has lived in Simi for 20 years and he and his wife are both heavily involved with the community.  They are both past presidents of PTA's and he has coached local baseball and been involved in the Cub Scouts.

Mad Era came about due to a beer making hobby he had and over 15 years in the restaurant business.  Although he was told that Simi wouldn't allow a Brewery, he went ahead with the idea anyway.  The good news was that he was granted permission by the City to operate a Brewery and got the location he wanted.  The bad news is that the location required much more work than anticipated.  The building sat vacant for 8-9 years and the interior was completely destroyed.  Vandals had ripped out and taken everything.  When all is said and done, about the only original parts of the building that will remain are the walls.  It will be a brand new building when he opens.

Adam said that if it weren't for the pandemic, he could open in about 2 months.  But since his establishment won't be conducive to outside eating, he's waiting for the pandemic to subside before he opens for business.  When he does open, he will have a fully operational restaurant along with 40 taps.
