President Deb Davila talked about a speaker and project she had heard at the national convention about a refugee project our of Germany that eventually included 11 clubs in 4 countries.  She said that our club will be just as strong this year without the Cajun festival and that having new beginnings are a good thing too!
It is customary that the president of the club present the president elect with a gift from the international convention.  President Deb picked out this shirt to give to President Elect Bill Klepper.  It was created by a club to raise money!
Mary Paseta and Cesar Zambrano presented our club's exchange student William Bowen, who will be spending the year in France, with our flag.
August is Membership Month
Bill Klepper said that we should always be on the lookout for people who might be interested in joining our Rotary club.  Our friendships are what we enjoy most so he would like to encourage everyone to "give the gift of friendship" and invite someone to check us out!

PROGRAM
Operation Shoe Box
Ruth Sosa
We had the pleasure of learning about a local as well as international program called Operation Shoebox. This organization fills shoe boxes with items that children throughout the world would need like items to attend school (pencils, crayons, paper) along with shoes and other supplies.  Generally the cost of the box is $20 and they are shipped throughout the world. Ruth Sosa is the area coordinator and she said last year the Tri Valley team filled more than 19,000 shoe boxes and that this year they would like to fill 22,400 boxes. The drop off period for people who would like to create the boxes is November 18-25 at the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship church in Simi Valley.
