Some people will use any excuse to break out the lederhosen.  Bill said the outfit was rented but why was his name embroidered on it?  In any event, Mr. Klepper and his companion reminded us were in the final stretch for our upcoming Oktoberfest on October 9th.   Sell, Sell, Sell!!!!

Stephanie Shannon
Sergeant-at-Arms
Stephanie brought the meeting to order and welcomed the large group of members and guests we had this morning.  Lots of good energy.

She then relayed a wonderful experience she had with a fellow member and, no Bruce, it wasn't you.  At last week's meeting Stephanie and that member were discussing an item being worn by the member and Stephanie was admiring it.  Afterward, she thought to herself that she was going to purchase that item but then completely forgot about it.  Then, lo and behold, a package came to her door the following day with that item inside.  Talk about a Random Act of Rotary.  It brought joy to her heart.

Stephanie's challenge to us all is that we open up our hearts and minds when we have conversations with others and to look for opportunities to create those Random Acts of Rotary.  And, she asked, that if you are involved in one, to share it with the Club.  She wants to start a movement!

======================
President Kathryn opened by welcoming all our Zoom participants and thanking Steve for living close enough to have time to retrieve forgotten items before the start of the meeting.

She then reminded us that we will be dark October 14th - No Meeting - and that a social late that afternoon is being planned.  Also, the District Governor's visit is now scheduled for October 28th.  Kathryn said a reception will be held that evening at a place to be determined.  If you have ideas for that location please share them with her.

Kathryn ended by reminding us that everyone has different ideas and that we all need to listen to them.  And not only listen to those ideas but to hear and respect them as well.  Kathryn quoted Michel de Montaigne, "There is no conversation more boring than the one where everybody agrees".

Leigh Seaton talked about the upcoming, long term project with Simi Rec and Park where we will be cleaning up the various openings to the Arroyo pathway.  We will be doing this work along with the other two Rotary Clubs in Simi but no competition there at all.  The work will involve painting and planting so you're creative side will be taxed.

Leigh has arranged a field trip on October 14th with Rec and Park to view the various sites.  Please join him if you can.
Martha Macker is coordinating the upcoming Family of Rotary event on October 14th in lieu of our weekly meeting.  It will a 5:30 Happy Hour at a place TBD.  Stay tuned.

John Baxter, our Vocational Service chair, gave us a primer in learning how to teach since September is Education and Literacy Month.  John is joined on the Vocational Service committee with John Bagnall, Tim Gray, Bob Bibb and Larry Borovay.

The primer involved implementing the Madeline Hunter Seven Steps to An Effective Lesson in the form of volleyball lessons with Demi (Bill?) Fox.  It's a good thing an actual ball wasn't used, someone could have been injured.

Our Guest Speaker this morning was Mr. Myan Spaccarelli with For The Need Foundation.  Well, for someone professing to not being comfortable at public speaking, Myan did a wonderful job getting his message across.  Very moving.  That message involved helping homeless youth.  Following is the For The Need Foundation Mission and Vision Statement:

The “For the Need Foundation” uses 100% of its donations to help the houseless and critically ill youth populations by providing them with mentorship, resources, everyday materials, gifts on the holidays, and various activities. We believe that every child deserves a chance to be something great if given a little help.

Myan talked about how the homeless situation continues to deteriorate here in Southern California despite the billions of dollars being thrown at it.  He feels that the source of the problem is not being dealt with, which, in his opinion, is helping the youth.  His organization works with the Salvation Army in coordinating events for homeless children staying at Salvation Army shelters.  Myan relayed a couple of stories in which just a small act of kindness shown to these kids at one of these events changed a life.  Absolutely inspiring!

He ended by saying that For The Need Foundation is always looking for mentors for the kid.  If interested, here is their contact info:
