Our Sergeant-at-Arms, Stephanie Shannon, dispensed with, as she refers to it, her opening monologue this morning due to the shortened agenda. We all look forward to hear her words of wisdom next week. And some of us want to hear more about how she was able to survive a trip with a her son and a busload of other 16 year old boys. Sounds like police tactics might have been required.

President Kathryn kept her message short this week as well. Her challenge to us all about demonstrating our commitment to the Rotary Core Values has been successful she said and feels very good about the results she has seen. She acknowledged that, due to Covid, there have been obstacles that prevented us from spreading goodwill. The challenge now is to remove those obstacles with the goal of trying to make the world a better place.
Kathryn thanked all three of our Club members - John Bagnall, Fred Thomas and Larry Borovay - for being our representatives on the One Rotary Committee. Event ideas are already coming in. Again, just a great way to get the Rotary brand out in the community and a wonderful way to meet and work with members of the other Rotary Clubs here in Simi.
Lastly, now that Leigh has been bailed out of jail for the breaking and entering charge Grand Vista has filed, Kathryn wants to get back to the use of badges and mentoring for new members. Stay tuned....

Mike Sidlinger lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Team Ginny will be having a booth at the Street Fair on Saturday, October 30th. Please come by.
Larry and Laura said things are moving along nicely and that it's all about ticket sales now. A Volunteers List will be coming out soon so keep an eye out for that. They'll need all the help they can get. Again, see either John Tolson or Jake Finch for all ticket sales.
Deb asked for help in finding sponsors - see details in flyer above. She thanked Dr. Gregg Hartman for being the first corporate sponsor. Thank You Dr. Hartman!
The 2021 Oktoberfest event is being held from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 9th at LEMON PARK
Save the date as volunteers will be needed.
Leigh
Reminder that Leigh needs help on the Hummingbird Trail graffiti cleanup onSaturday, August 14th at 7:00 AM. Please let Leigh know if you can help.
A reminder that tickets are on sale and registration is open for the District 5240 Conference. It is being held October 8th-10th at the Ventura Beach Marriott and will be the first in-person District event since the beginning of Covid. Unfortunately it conflicts with our Club's Oktoberfest which is on October 9th but please participate if you can.
Don't forget about Rotary of Family's first gathering at the Berger's home on August 27th at 6:00 PM. This is a Potluck and a Cornhole Tournament so bring a dish, drinks and a good throwing arm.
Kathryn gave us an update on the Group Five backpack giveaway. The backpacks, about 50 of them, will be picked up next week. They will need to be filled with schools supplies for those in need so donations are being sought. A list of recommended school supplies will be sent out via email so look for that. Your donation can be cash or actual supplies. Actual supplies can be dropped off at either the Junkyard or the Birdie Bar and cash donations can be made through Vince Dulcich. Just text him at 805-206-5321 the cash amount you want donated and he will charge that amount against your account. Pretty darn easy!
To give you an idea of what an awesome Club we all belong to, within minutes (if not seconds) of Kathryn's request for cash donations, Vince had received texts that amounted to over $1100. Wow!
Lastly, Kathryn said that the backpacks will be assembled on Saturday, August 21st at 8:30 AM at Monte Vista. Looking for volunteers to help out.
Leigh Seaton let us know that Kim Schulte has volunteered to spruce up our old banners. In addition, Kim will create new ones made from flags gathered from cities or countries that our members have visited. So if you have any such flags or banners and want to participate, see Leigh or Kim.

Leigh Seaton passed on a message from Mike Kort, President of the Sunset Club. Mike's Club is coordinating a 20th Anniversary 9-11 Memorial at Lemon Park by the pool. The names of all 2,977 victims of the attacks will be said out loud. Mike is looking for help in reading out the names. This would be on September 11th starting at 8:45 AM and Mike thinks it will take 3-4 hours to complete. Here's a link to a sign up sheet if you can help:
We REALLY are meeting at the Junkyard In Person on August 19th! Remember you also have the option to attend by Zoom as well.
======================
Please remember to bring a friend or an acquaintance to our next meeting. This is a GREAT way to grow our membership! And the guest's lunch is taken care of.
