President Bill talked about the Happy Face Hill decorations that happened last Friday in honor of Memorial Day. Happy Face was cleaned up and 144 US Flags were planted around the perimeter. He talked about the enthusiasm that Happy Face brings to our community and the good feelings that it generates. He said to look for a nice article from the Acorn on the Flags. He quoted several postings as well such as "Appreciate it more than you know" and "Thanks for maintaining Happy Face Hill" to name just a few. Bill denies that the posts all came from his computer.
We then all had a nice surprise. Simi Councilwoman Elaine Lister, a Guest this morning, came up to the front for a presentation. She presented Bill with an official City of Simi Valley Certificate of Recognition recognizing June 2021 as Happy Face Hill month. Councilwoman Lister did confess though that the main purpose for the Certificate was to get Bill off of her back with his constant demands for a City Proclamation of some sort dealing with Happy Face, Simi Sunrise and Bill. So to further placate Bill, she then read a proclamation of sorts. It had a lot of "whereases" and references to Bill and it was long. Just the ticket!

While not quite as dangerous as Iwo Jima, it was pretty warm that day.

A great way to spend the morning!

Kristin is the leader of the Simi Valley Youth Employment Service (YES). She is also involved in many other local activities as well, all centered around helping youth acquire job skills and connecting them to employers. Carolyn Boucher
Team Ginny Update
Spread the message!
Carolyn Boucher said she got a nice pep talk from Rocky Rhodes this morning. He let her know that the search for a donor is a long haul and that she needs to just keep working hard and something good will come from it. Carolyn and Dorina need all the help this Club can muster in order to succeed
As a reminder, they have spoken about how the hope is that come June 15th, when most Covid protocols are lifted, there will be many more opportunities to sponsor or get involved in Community Events. This is a great way to Spread the Word. Carolyn's challenge to us this morning was to come up with ideas for Community Events that would suit that purpose. Any idea is a good idea!
Also a reminder about Dorina's Facebook page and about copying the Save a Life note with phone number and posting it on your Facebook page. And all business owners and friends of business owners, please exhibit the Team Ginny flyer in your business and send Dorina a picture of that. Every bit helps and you never know where or how that hero will be found.
If you need to learn how to Share on social media, please reach out to Team Ginny and they will be glad to help.
Leigh reminded us about the date for the Smoke Alarm installation at the Crest Mobile Home Park here in Simi. It is set for June 12th, 8:30 AM. The site is in the 5900 Block of Los Angeles Avenue. Let Leigh know if you can help.

Our Speaker today was Mr. Don Drugan with the Callegus Water District.
Mr. Drugan described the Callegus Water District as a water wholesaler whose area includes Simi Valley. He talked about the fact that the state is facing yet another hot, dry summer ahead, and the governor has declared a drought emergency in 41 of the state’s 58 counties. More than 37 million Californians reside in these drought areas, according to the US drought monitor. The Central Valley has been hit especially hard made worse by the fact that they will be receiving 0% of their yearly allotment of agricultural water this year. That means that they will have to dig their wells deeper.
Bottom line, he said, was that if we have a dry winter in 2021, we could see extreme drought measures implemented in 2022. Let's all hope and pray for a wet winter this year.
