President Bill opened up the Zoom meeting by giving us all a heads up that the Fall Season is a busy time for our Rotary Club with lots of projects coming up. These include the Drive In movie in October, the Thanksgiving Dinner at the Senior Center, the Bike Assembly and the Christmas Tree decoration for the Festival of Trees. Lots of opportunities to volunteer!
Bill also mentioned that he's heard comments from former Simi Valley residents that some of the things that they miss about our city include Happy Face Hill and the Cajun Festival. It's nice to know that our Club is responsible for both of these events.
Finally, Bill reminded us that during this election season, we, as Rotarians, need to be mindful of how and when we express our views. Let's be respectful and gracious.

Kathy Scroggin said it's the responsibility of each club member to develop and maintain membership. She is challenging each of us to connect and keep an eye out for quality people to bring into our club who have passion, strength and compassion. They just need to be asked.

Larry Borovay gave us an update. Tickets are now 60% sold out and we have secured $2000 from sponsors. Larry said we need to keep pushing because there's lots of competing events out there. Our selling point, as Larry pointed out, is the great deal we give at $25 per car load and the fact that the proceeds go to support our charities. He added that Face Painting may be an option so stay tuned.
It turns out that Regal Cinemas has suspended operations and, therefor, the James Bond movie has been postponed yet again until April. We just can't win with this one. But due to this postponement, we are looking into the possibility of another, fourth, Drive In movie. More to details to follow.
A Request from Our
Vocational Service Committee
Committee Chair Geovanny Ragsdale reminded us that it is important that we each take a moment to respond to this 2-minute survey to help guide our Vocational Committee and the work they are planning for this Fall. Her meeting is this Friday, the 9th, so there is little time left. Please help and fill this survey out.
Bill let us know that the Senior Center Thanksgiving Dinner is a Go! We have 64 turkeys lined up and ready to be prepared in the Senior Center kitchen. The assumption is that they won't be alive when delivered. An orchestra has been arranged to greet the Seniors as they arrive to receive their dinner in a Drive By fashion. This will be an All Day event so look for more details.
Leigh Seaton learned of an elderly lady in our community in need of our help. Leigh got a call from City Code Enforcement in regard to a tree falling on her house. She lives alone and has no one to help her with this. This is where we Rotarians shine!
Leigh is looking for help this Saturday, the 10th, to clean it up for her. The location is 2753 N. Licia Court and we are starting at 8:00 am. Please bring the following if you have it: wire rakes, a chain saw, rope, another truck, leaf blower, eye protection, gloves, trash cans and, most importantly, helping hands. You can contact Leigh at 805.857.1682.
Thanks, Leigh, for organizing this!

We had the following guests this week:
Russ Martin
Thanks for joining us Russ.

The meeting ended with a Halloween Quiz put on by Dr. P. It consisted of 10 Halloween related questions and was hotly contested. Lots of competitive types in this Club. It ended up with the Quilt Goddess winning, Magic Pony coming in second and Tim Gray placing third. Sounds like a race horse. I'll let you figure out who is who here.

We did not have a Guest Speaker this week because of the Board Meeting but Harry VanDyck gave us an update on the quest for a kidney donor for Ginny. He said that there hasn't been as much activity as we were hoping for this first week but we know that the successful donor is out there. We're just getting started and we really need to put this in high gear by getting the word out, posting Flyers (which are available online) and sharing, sharing and sharing. Carolyn Boucher mentioned that our Facebook page about Ginny has been liked by quite a few people and the testimonial video made during last week's meeting will be posted on it this Saturday, the 10th. And, lastly, Harry said that a Guest from last week's meeting has thrown his name into the hat as a potential donor. All good news!!!!
The donor process starts with a phone call to the HOTLINE at 805-517-1717.

Thanks, Dan, for leading the Invocation. And thanks to John Bagnall for leading the Flag salute and John Baxter for introducing our Guest.
