Stephanie brought the meeting to order. Following are Stephanie's written comments:
Throughout our meetings, I have referred to my strong belief that everything happens for a reason and that everyone we meet comes into our lives for a purpose and offers us a gift. I’ve shared how sometimes the most non-assuming person, can create everlasting change in your life and sometimes help us to be a better person. One of my favorite examples is our very own Rob Hitchcock. If you remember, Rob began to talk to me in the pool at the YMCA and before I knew it, I was invited to be a guest at a Simi Sunrise meeting and I eventually became a member of Rotary and the rest as they say is history. By becoming a Rotarian, I met all of you, and have helped Simi Valley in ways that I hoped that I could and it has helped me to become a part of something that is bigger than myself.
Rob is also responsible for bringing Leigh Seaton and Matt Rowe to Rotary and both are incredible examples of Rotary.
In many ways, Rob Hitchcock like so many people in our lives, was an unsung hero to me and helped me to become a better person through Rotary. What started out as a simple conversation about swimming, became a turning point in my life and I will forever be grateful to Rob for that gift. Today, we are going to hear about another example of people who are unsung heroes and I hope that you will think about the heroes in your life who helped you become the person you are today.

President Kathryn Scroggin
President Kathryn welcomed our Zoom participants and talked about the many heroes around us. She mentioned several ways that we are considering to support the Ukrainian refugees and a possibility to use the Happy Face Music Festival to raise funds in their support. We then took 3 minutes to brainstorm ideas at each table for project ideas that we could tackle in the next few months.
Kathryn mentioned that Bill Fox is recovering and is grateful for the calls that he has received. Arun Sharma is in recovery mode as well and hopes to join us in person soon. She also welcomed Jim Visage who is recovering from recent surgery.

Kathryn reminded us about the upcoming Virtual District Training Assembly on March 26th. All Avenues of Service will need to attend and she encourages new members to attend as well. It's a great way to learn more about Rotary. See Kathryn for details.

Bill Klepper organized a second work party on the 19th to assist Thomas Herdering's neighbor with yard cleanup. Multiple dumpsters were filled. It was a feel good moment for all involved.
Vince gave us an update on where things are at with the trailer at Dave's Towing. We have until March 31st to empty the trailer. The current plan is to sell the trailer and move the remaining contents into our storage unit at the Camp Rotary site.
Thanks to all who have participated to date. We have a little more to go before we will be complete.

Bill Klepper is organizing our next Bolio event. Mark your calendars for April 10th at Harley's Valley Bowl, 10:00 AM. Bill said that teams are being formed and that the participation of the Special Olympic athletes is up in the air at this point due to covid.
A very good cause and a great opportunity to show your stuff. And, if you don't have stuff to show, the worst score will be rewarded.
BJ Anderson is looking for one more bowler to complete her team. Please call her if you are up for it.
Tim Gray, displayed some of the marketing support they've come up with. They have posters, banners, flyers, you name it, for us all to display. The Sponsors Brochure is available as well. Tickets are on sale and the VIP tickets are the hot item. Dan Jordan recom.mends that we "Like" and "Share" any and all references to the festival that we see on Facebook. This really helps to get our message out
To recap, The Happy Face Music Festival will be held on Saturday, May 28th which is Memorial Day weekend. It will be a half day event at the Rancho Simi Park with no more than 2000 tickets being sold at $50 per ticket. It will follow a minimal concept with Food, Alcohol (both beer and wine), and Entertainment provided with only those 21 and over being admitted.
Carolyn Boucher is looking for photos of favorite past Club projects that can be displayed at the Street Fair booth. Please follow up with Carolyn.
Again, the Simi Street Fair is on Saturday, April 30th. The plan is to have a booth highlighting Team Ginny as well as the various events and activities that our Rotary Club is involved with. She's looking for help and ideas. Come work the booth with your best Rotary Elevator Speech!

Our guest speaker today was Dete Meserve, an accomplished producer and novelist who brought us a refreshing message which she titled, "Random Acts of Kindness". Recently she was honored by Rotary District 5280 at their annual gala event for her work to bring a message of goodness and promise to her audiences.
In a world where so much of what we hear, see and read is focused on murders, war, violence and tragedies, it is easy to believe that most people are evil, but this is simply NOT true.
She told us of several stories relating many small efforts started by individuals which then grew into large movements. It turns out that, "We're wired to do good." And it makes us feel good and others want to join us when they see what we are doing. To be a part of something bigger than themselves. And these stories go on all around us, but we don't hear enough about them.
Dete shared her frustration when her projects are turned down because they don't have the pop and sizzle of a good murder mystery. The networks are in tune with what we watch and they give us more of what we want.
But her message was simple. "We're wired to good. It makes us feel good. Start small."
Dete concluded her time with us by giving away several copies of her book entitled,
"Random Acts of Kindness."
This was the last meeting for Past president Dan Jaeger who is moving on to Idaho Falls, Idaho. He regaled us with one last (or was it two? seemed like 4 :) poems as only Dan can do.
Happy Trails, pardner. We'll miss you. Thanks for your time and service with Simi Sunrise.
