President Bill welcomed everyone to the meeting - all 43 of us - quite a lot. He let us know that we will be dark for our next two meetings since they fall on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, respectively. Our next meeting will be on January 7th, 2021. It will be by Zoom unless the outdoor dining restriction is lifted. If it is lifted, we will meet at the Junkyard under the tarps, sans wind. Bill promised. Look for emails from Bill on all of that.
He then welcomed our Guests and got down to business.
Our next meeting will be on January 7th, 2021. It will be by Zoom unless the outdoor dining restriction is lifted. If it is lifted, see you at the Junkyard.
Hope everyone stays safe and is able to enjoy the Holiday Season. See you back in the New Year.

Please bring a friend or an acquaintance to our next meeting. This is a great way to introduce someone new to what being a Rotarian is all about.

Dorina Timbol gave us an update on Team Ginny. Lots of flyers were handed out at the Drive-In but no match yet.
Please be reminded about the business cards that were made available with the Team Ginny message on them as well as the Painted Rocks. And, of course, please continue to share the message on Social Media, especially the hotline phone number - 805-517-1717. A donor can't be found without getting the word out.
If you need to learn how to Share on social media, please reach out to Team Ginny and they will be glad to help.
Larry gave us a wrap up. Despite the wind giving the screens a hard time, it was a great success. Rumors of Leigh sailing off with one of the screens proved to be false.
Larry said we profited more than $4,000 bringing the yearly Drive-In total to over $20,000. A very significant amount. He specifically thanked Chas Wilson and Leigh Seaton for all of their help. Larry also said that there were some signed DVD's and Posters by Ed Asner still available for a $100 donation. See Larry or Ryan if you're interested.
Congratulations to Larry and Ryan for all of their hard work!!!!
Chas Wilson let us know how we can all help our Club Charity, the Simi Sunrise Rotary Charitable Foundation and shop at the same time. When you make a purchase on Amazon, you can link up with our charity to make a donation. Please see Chas if you have any questions.
And, last call on helping the Sunset Club with the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Drive. Buy a box of them for $12 and then donate them to your favorite group.
Leigh says we're meeting at Jerry's this Saturday, the 19th, at 7 AM to spruce up Happy Face Hill. For those of you who want to forego breakfast at Jerry's, meet at the site at 8 AM. See Leigh for directions if you need them. Please bring wire rakes and weed eaters if you have them, everything else is supplied except the actual labor. That's where you come in.

Deb Davila is coordinating the collection of coats, scarves, hats, mittens, etc. for those in more need than us at the Samaritan Center. Please gather up the stuff you aren't wearing any longer and either drop it off at the Chamber of Commerce at 40 W. Cochran Street, Suite 100 or at Deb's house at 5335 Indian Hills Drive. If she's not there, just leave it on the porch. Deb will also be taking any contributions after Christmas as well.
Thanks to Bill, we were all entertained by Mr. Dwayne Dopsie, live from Lafayette, Louisiana. Jingle Bells never sounded so good! Brought back memories of the Cajun Festival. The only complaint was that we didn't have time to hear more.
Mr. Dwayne Dopsie
Covid be damned, we still had the Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest!
Bill was the MC at the event and was very clever in getting out of NOT having to pick the winner. But, Deb deftly dodged Bill's delegating of that authority. Here's how it went down.....
We had Leigh, Demi, Karen, Bruce, Carolyn, Geovanny, Kathy, Ryan and Gary as contestants. Bill asked Ryan Valencia to pick three finalists. Showing wisdom beyond his years, he politely declined but finally agreed to picking five. His picks were Demi, Karen, Bruce, Carolyn and Geovanny. Bill took some heat off of Ryan and passed it to Harry asking Harry to narrow the five down to two. Harry picked Geovanny and Carolyn. Then Bill put Deb in his sights and asked her to pick the winner. And Deb's masterful stroke was declaring a tie! Brilliant......
Chas Wilson just spent a night at the Samaritan Center helping as an overnight monitor. This effort allows those without a roof over their head to have a safe and warm place to spend the night. The Center is looking for volunteers from our Club to help out every Wednesday night from 7 PM to 7 AM the next morning on Thursday.
Please see John Tolson if you can help out.

We had two Guest Speakers today. First we heard from Ms. Michelle Clark, the new General Manager at the Simi Valley Town Center. Then we heard from Mr. Greg Seymour on Lead The Way.
Ms. Michelle Clark
Ms. Clark was just hired by the Festival Companies to be the new General Manager of the Town Center Mall. She talked about how she wants to increase the number of events at the mall and cited the recent Christmas in a Car tree lighting ceremony just held as an example. She's also looking to be more engaged with outreach for those in need in the community. She's met with the Mayor, the City Manager and City Planning (John Tolson) in order to make all of that happen. Good Luck Michelle!
Mr. Greg Seymour
Our second Guest Speaker today was Mr. Greg Seymour, owner of Seymour Solutions, Inc. where he does Life and Leadership Coaching, Inspirational Speaking and presents seminars on Leadership, Emotional Intelligence in Leadership and Self-Esteem. He is currently working for the City of Simi Valley at the Senior Center. He's very active in the community having served on several Boards and is a Distinguished Toastmaster.
Greg's talk today was centered around Leadership and a concept called Emotional Intelligence. This is a phrase dating back to 1990 and has to do with one's ability to accurately perceive and manage your emotions as well as others. The lesson Greg teaches is that a successful leader gets to know the people working for him or her. You are taught to listen to your people. This allows the leader to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of the staff and to play up to those strengths and work on the weaknesses. This approach energizes people and makes them want to contribute. They feel like they are part of something. Very good advice.
