PROGRAM
Pace Universal and Human
Trafficking
We had the pleasure and honor of hearing from Deepa Willingham - past District Governor and Founder or PACE. PACE is committed to ending trafficking and uplifting communities through the education of girls and women living in extreme poverty – girls who don’t have access to schooling and whose societies devalue and discard them. PACE offers education, empowerment and sustainability. (http://paceuniversal.org/)
The theme of her talk is Half the Sky - which is reference to women holding up 1/2 the sky - and talked about the plight of girls today around the world. She said that currently there are 62 million girls that aren't allowed to attend school.
Her primary focus for our meeting was on trafficking of girls and how we can help to stop it:
--Awareness
--Prevention
--Intervention
--Restoration
She talked the school she founded called Piyali Junction Learning Center. The center is now a prototype for others to emulate. It focuses on basic education, water and sanitation, economic and community development and promoting peace, conflict prevention and resolution.
