Guide Dogs of America
We had the wonderful opportunity to learn about Guide Dogs of America from John Albarran, Nancy Hawthorne, Diana Janke, Bridget Winnett and Marshall Schrago.
Guide Dogs of America empowers people who are blind and visually impaired to live with increased independence, confidence and mobility by providing expertly matched guide dog partners. Their services are provided free of charge and available to people within the U.S. and Canada. They shared information on the cost of raising a dog ($48,000), the breeds that are offered and that only 40-50% of the dogs make it to become guide dogs.
