Today's meeting was held on Zoom
Bill Fox

Zoom made it difficult to tell which Fox was running the show this morning so apologies for that.  The only way many knew it was Bill and not Demi was that we didn't have to exercise this morning.  Bill pulled us together though and got the meeting going.

Vince Dulcich lead the invocation this morning.
Mike Kort, our guest from the Evening Club, lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Mike was unable to attend today's meeting by video.
Fernando Estevez, looking dapper as usual, welcomed our Guests this morning.
President Bill, via the Flagship Enterprise, talked about the great enjoyment he receives from the Club.  He specifically mentioned the areas of Service, Fundraising and Fellowship.  He thanked the Club for this past year saying that he felt this Club was special for many reasons.  In this Club, he said, memberships become friendships.

Bill then introduced a special guest we had this morning, Jay Cohen.  Jay is the bugler at Santa Anita Park racetrack.  He's been at it for more than three decades.  After playing to empty stands (he was deemed an essential worker) he said he's enjoying immensely the recent return of fans to the stands.  He not only serenaded us with his bugle, he entertained us with his standup routine as well.  Thanks for starting out the day with a smile Jay!

Leigh and Bill placing the Banner
Team Ginny Update
Spread the message!

Dorina Timbol thanked Leigh Seaton and Bill Klepper for placing a Team Ginny banner off of the 23 Freeway between Tierra Rejada and Olsen Road. They are expecting good feedback from the banner.

Dorina also mentioned that Team Ginny will be at the upcoming Chamber of Commerce breakfast.  The mission is to encourage local businesses to promote the Team Ginny effort by exhibiting the Team Ginny flyer at their business.

Also a reminder about Dorina's Facebook page and about copying the Save a Life note with phone number and posting it on your Facebook page.  And all business owners and friends of business owners, please exhibit the Team Ginny flyer in your business and send Dorina a picture of that.  Every bit helps and you never know where or how that hero will be found.

If you need to learn how to Share on social media, please reach out to Team Ginny and they will be glad to help.

Larry Borovay and Laura Berger, co-chairs of the 2021 Oktoberfest, gave us an update on the event being held on October 9th at the Rancho Simi Community Park, AKA the Duck Park.

Two breweries have come on board so far.  Larry is confident though that, with our motivated Beer Committee hard at work, more will soon follow.  Larry also mentioned that a German Oktoberfest Party Band, Hazelnuss Das Music, has been booked.  They specialize in Oktoberfest music. They will play for four hours and it will involve a lot of audience participation.

Save the date as volunteers will be needed.
Mike Kort, from the Evening Club, joined us again this morning to talk about his Club's upcoming event.  It will be a Drive In Concert with an  80's theme and he's looking for volunteers to help out.  This event will be very similar to the Queen Nation Concert our Club recently put on.  The concert is set for May 22nd in the afternoon so please let Mike know if you can help out from the hours of 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM or anything in between.

Email Mike at this LINK if you can help.

Also, please know that Mike's Rotary Club is giving all service clubs a 20% discount on tickets and VIP packages for this concert.

Tickets can be purchased at rock.simisunsetrotary.org and the promo code is: RotaryFriends2021

Leigh Seaton announced the Happy Face Hill cleanup date has changed.

It is now set for May 28th!!!!

We will meet at the site at 8:00 AM and expect it will take a couple of hours to complete the work.  In addition to a general cleanup, we will also be putting up 144 flags in honor of Memorial Day.  Aleve will be provided.  Bring gloves, rakes, weed wackers, etc., whatever you have.
'Ol Man Seaton also announced a date for the Smoke Alarm installation at the Crest Mobile Home Park here in Simi.  It is set for June 12th.  More details to follow.

======================
Deb Davila announced Bill's Demotion.  It will be June 26th at 5:00 PM.  See Deb for details and don't tell Bill about it.  Deb warned everyone that Bill will try and get it out of one of us.  Don't buckle, be strong!

Larry Borovay announced that the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Foundation is in need of donations.  To that end, El Patio Restaurant at 4351 Township is hosting a Taco Tuesday on May 18th.  20% of all proceeds received from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM will go to the Foundation if a flyer is presented.  Look for that flyer in an email from Bill tomorrow, Friday.

Woman On The Street Interview with John Baxter
John gave us another in his series of interviews with Club members about their business.  Today John shared his interview with Carolyn Boucher, owner of Elements Massage here in Simi.  See John for the full interview but here are a few highlights:

Elements Massage is a franchise that Carolyn has owned for 8 years now.  Her business provides massage services with an emphasis on therapeutic massages so it's not a spa.  Carolyn was a software developer for 28 years and fell into this massage franchise while working on her MBA.  She had personally benefitted from massage therapy for her back so this was something she had a passion about.  She said her business is hyper focused on client service.  It allows her to help people (even though she is not a masseuse herself) as well giving her access to a regular massage.  Win win!
