This week's meeting was by Zoom due to the monthly Board Meeting.
President Bill was, again, caught in the middle of his responsibilities on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise - 60's version.
Bill let us all know that Cheryl Temple, our Speaker last week, sent him a follow up email saying what a great time she had at last week's meeting. Sounds like Cheryl's diplomatic training in the DA's office kicked in. A great time speaking while dealing with gale force winds?
Also, Bill reminded us all to continue supporting our local businesses, especially our restaurants and especially The Junkyard. To Evelyn and Tony THANKS for all you do for our Club and the Community in general.
Lastly, please continue to keep Mike Sidlinger in your hearts and prayers, who continues recuperating from his accident.
The Speaker at next week's meeting on December 17th will be Mr. Greg Seymour on Lead The Way. We will also get a 10 minute update on The Towne Center from their new general manager, Ms. Michelle Clark. Please join us if you can.

Please bring a friend or an acquaintance to our next meeting. This is a great way to introduce someone new to what being a Rotarian is all about.

Dorina Timbol (take my word for it)
Dorina Timbol gave us an update on Team Ginny. She'll be taking advantage of this Saturday's Drive In movie and will be handing out flyers to everyone who shows up. She also talked about the Painted Rock competition mentioned previously and that a flyer will be coming out about that soon.
Please be reminded about the business cards that were made available with the Team Ginny message on them. And, of course, please continue to share the message on Social Media, especially the hotline phone number - 805-517-1717. A donor can't be found without getting the word out.
If you need to learn how to Share on social media, please reach out to Team Ginny and they will be glad to help.
Over 200 tickets have now been sold so we are definitely in the black. Any further ticket sales is all profit so get yours before its too late!
To purchase tickets use this link:

$300 tickets are still available to support the Ed Asner Family Center. That purchase will get you an autographed Elf poster signed by Ed Asner.
And, as a special enticement, Rich Perini announced that Papa Elf and Buddy (AKA Old Man Seaton and President Bill) will make an appearance - fully costumed. Leigh and Bill say that they are doing this to raise money but, truth be told, I think it gives them (or at least one of them) an opportunity to wear tights in public. But back to the raising money part. Rich says he will match any amount, up to $300, for anyone wanting to see these "Men in Tights"......
Volunteers are still needed, specifically with parking. Please let Ryan know if you can help. Here's a link:
To Be a VIP...email Bill at bill@goklepper.com. ..simply say Yes....and John will bill you the 100 dollars...VIP parking...Name up in lights...and Popcorn! What a deal!
One more way that you can make the evening even MORE ENJOYABLE would be to have some cookies or bread DELIVERED TO THE SITE from one of our Club members, Geovanny Ragsdale (and her husband).
Please remember that you can now sit safely in your car and simply tune to 88.9 on the FM dial and listen to our outdoor meetings. You will clearly hear the audio from our entire meeting in the Junkyard parking lot.
Smoke Alarms
Looks like the Smoke Alarm installations at the Crest Mobile Home Park won't happen until sometime next year. Stay tuned.....
REMINDER
Chas Wilson let us know how we can all help our Club Charity, the Simi Sunrise Rotary Charitable Foundation and shop at the same time. When you make a purchase on Amazon, you can link up with our charity to make a donation. Please see Chas if you have any questions.
Dr. P gave us a wrap up on the Bike Assembly Party - It was a rousing success! The bikes were picked up at Monte Vista at 6:30 AM, over to The Junkyard by 7:00 AM, assembled and pretty much delivered by 1:00 PM. There was lots of help from all three Simi Rotary Clubs, the Boy Scouts, some Royal High Football players and some local Mormon Missionaries among others. Talk about a true Community Event!
Dr. P wanted to give a Special Thanks to Gary White and John Tolson for all of their indispensable help behind the scenes. He also thanked The Junkyard for the coffee and sweet rolls and Waste Management for the dumpster.

Leigh gave us a reminder about the upcoming Holiday Food Drive sponsored by the Sunset Club. Donations will be accepted this Saturday from 9-12 as well as at a Drop Off Box at the Junkyard, which is there now. Please help if you can.
Also, please help the Sunset Club with the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Drive mentioned last week. Buy a box of them for $12 and then donate them to your favorite group. Corey Baker said that he knew of a particular department here in Simi that would be very appreciative of Donuts.......just saying.
Our virtual classes have been successful, so let's do it again! Although we can't have the class in person, we can definitely do it on Zoom and for those who can't make the Zoom class, I’ll have the demonstration recorded and posted on Youtube.
This one is always popular, a Holiday Mug with Christmas greenery and beautiful red carnations!
We’ll have the flowers, supplies and materials for you to pick up here at Monte Vista. The materials will be available for pickup starting Wednesday, 12/16, 12 noon to 5:30 PM and Thursday, 12/17, 9:30 AM-5:00 PM. The Zoom class will be ‘live’ at 6:30 PM, Thursday, December 17. The video will be available to watch following the class.
As in the past, we are asking for a $10 donation to help cover the costs of the supplies.
Looking forward to seeing all of you!
RSVP's must be received by Tuesday, December 15th!!!!

Leigh tells us its that time again - time to spruce up Happy Face Hill. Maybe even give it a Holiday look, who knows. He's looking for help the morning of December 19th starting at 8:30 AM. There's talk of meeting at Jerry's at 7 AM beforehand but not sure what the Covid situation will be like then. Stay tuned for more details and the status of meeting at Jerry's.
Demi Fox let us all know in a most heartfelt manner about an event she's involved with that is taking part at Coyote Hills Park this Sunday, the 13th, from 12 noon to 4:00 PM. She's looking for toys or a cash donation. Here's the location:

After much coaxing and cajoling, our very own Poet Laureate, Mr. Dan Jaeger, graced us with a poem. He didn't have a new Christmas-themed one so went in another direction. He read, in a way only Dan can do, the lyrics of a song written by Dan Bern called New American Language. Some of those lyrics are copied here:
She said, "Love, love, love is everything"
I said, "Okay, I guess, whatever"
She said, "What does that mean?"
I said, "Nothing, it's just good to have a backup plan"
She said, "I guess that means you don't got love"
I said, "Maybe I love everyone"
She said, "That's the same as loving no one"
I said, "Okay, I guess, whatever"
I have a dream of a new American language
One with a little bit more Spanish
I have a dream of a new pop music
That tells the truth with a good beat and some nice harmonies
I have a dream
I have a dream
Tourist towns are a drag sometimes
But in non-tourist towns, you can get beat up
Just for looking a little different
I guess the thing to do is just stay at home
Yeah, but sometimes I think the thing to do
Would be to get a place way out…
Poet Laureate Dan Jaeger
