In memory of 9/11 and the upcoming 20th Anniversary, a quote from President Obama comes right out of the Rotary playbook: “Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11.”
So here's the deal. My Zoom connection went out just as Stephanie started the meeting. Yet another reason to hate Zoom. By the time I got reconnected, she had wrapped up her opening. All I heard was a reminder that we are DARK NEXT WEEK, no meeting. I have no idea what she said beyond that but, whatever it was, I'm sure it was uplifting as usual. Sorry Stephanie!

President Kathryn opened with a moment of silence in honor of the victims of 9/11.
She then let us know that she will be promoting Oktoberfest and Rotary membership at tomorrow morning's Chamber Breakfast, which our Club is sponsoring. She also let us know that two of the topics of discussion at this morning's Board meeting will be the location of our new venue and a new look at our meeting concept.
Kathryn ended by asking Why Rotary and she gave us the answer, which is giving back both locally and globally.
Here are some reminders from last week:
- We are DARK September 16th. No meeting will take place and, in honor of Yom Kippur, we will not be having a mixer that day/evening either.
- We will be back at the Junkyard on September 23rd. And, after that meeting, a trip to Lemon Park is planned to look at the Oktoberfest layout.
- Our District Governor will be paying us a visit on September 30th.
President Kathryn Scroggin

John Shamoun lead the Invocation with a remembrance of 9/11. Thanks for the thoughtful words John.
Herschel Berger lead the Pledge of Allegiance this morning.
Bob Bibb welcomed our Guests this morning, all none of them. Maybe we shouldn't have Bob do this any more? And, Bob is dead center in the Zoom picture above. The only picture available of Bob due to more Zoom difficulties........
Our Guests today included:

BJ Anderson asked that we give a shout out for an upcoming fundraiser at Mission Burrito. Not only does this support our local arts, it also supports a local business that happens to be owned by our own Jose Martinez.

Lyle Pennington, a fellow Rotarian, is involved with the 35th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, September 20th benefitting the Boys and Girls Club of Moorpark and Simi Valley. He needs 216 players as well as sponsors. Here's a note from Lyle:
Thanks for getting this in your bulletin. Time is short for the Tee signs, we need the commitments by next Tuesday (September 7th) to get new signs built.
For golfing sponsorships and golfers, we have a couple more days, but Monday September 20th is the Tournament and that is coming up fast.
Thanks for your help.

Laura Berger let us know that our Club will be the Chamber meeting sponsor on September 10th. It will be at Cronies at 7 AM. Laura encourages us to join her, especially those members who belong to the Chamber.
Team Ginny will be having a booth at the Street Fair on Saturday, October 30th. Please come by.
We heard from John Tolson, Laura Berger and Herschel Berger this morning.
John encouraged us all to get those tickets sold! Get the word out because its all about ticket sales now! And, there are still $30 tickets available.
Herschel said that Volunteer sign ups were going well and he was at about 80-85% filled up. He still needs that remaining 15-20% filled though.
Laura and Herschel both wanted to clarify something in regard to volunteering and buying a ticket. While it is hoped that a volunteer can cover the entire 6 hours of the festival (10:30 AM to 4:30 PM), any number of hours that can be offered is welcomed. However, a shift less than the full 6 hours does not get you in the Festival for free. You will still need to buy a ticket. Remember, they said, that this is a charity event.
Reminders:
Please contact Herschel at the following email or phone:

See either John Tolson or Jake Finch for all ticket sales.

Please see Stephanie Shannon if you're interested in supporting the Moorpark HS Baseball team.
Leigh Seaton reminded us about the Blood Drive he's coordinating on October 7th. Please see Leigh to set up an appointment. This is a BYOB event.
TIERRA REJADA CLEANUP
Leigh also let us know that we will be working with the Moorpark Club to spruce up Tierra Rejada on October 16th. Stay tuned for more details.

Remember that there is no meeting next week, September 16th. Our next meeting will be at the Junkyard on September 23rd.
