We had the pleasure of welcoming District Governor Sandra Schwartz to our meeting this morning and don't forget we are having a reception tonight at Herschel and Laura Berger's House at 6:30 p.m. - 3463 Sunset Place.
Updates and Information
Mike McCaffrey talked about how his theme -- Be the Inspiration -- was highlighted in this month's Rotarian Magazine in two articles - one about chess and the other about Arthur Ash.
He also had his Avenue of Service Chairs come up and discuss their plans for this coming year.
DG Sandra Schwartz presented three Above and Beyond awards to members who helped bring YES! to Kern County. They were Tim Gray, Greg Hartman and Dorina Timbol.
DG Sandra Schwartz also shared a photo plaque that she gave to Mike McCaffrey during one of the PIN meetings in Whittier where they planted a hillside that had been devastated after a wildfire there.
Dr. Bhagirathi Joshi presented a flag from his club to the DG Sandra Schwartz and Mike McCaffrey.
Doug Feco presented one of his final president's award to John Baxter for all his work on youth projects last year.
Lee Dominic shared more details on the upcoming Voo Doo on the Bayou Haunted House planned for October. He said every Sunday, from 9 am - 5 pm - he will need volunteers to help build the walls for the mazes. Also, they need a rowboat! (See below for more information on the event and supplies needed to build.)
Golf Classic
Bill Klepper talked about next week's Golf Classic from the Simi Valley Police Foundation. (See flyer below for more information.)
Rotary Club of Simi Sunset's Beerfest

We had the wonderful opportunity to hear from our District Governor Sandra Schwartz. She talked about why membership growth is important and updated as to the Polio status of the three remaining countries. She also talked about the upcoming 5240 District Conference in Bakersfield October 5-6 and some of her own fundraising events.
