Stephanie Shannon, our new Sergeant at Arms, got this first meeting of the year off with a great talk about the opportunities ahead of us this year under Kathryn's leadership.  Stephanie spoke of the amazing things our Club did last year with Bill as President, even under the Covid restrictions.  Just think, she asked, what we can now do with those restrictions being lifted?  Stephanie brought the meeting to order with a challenge to all of us to look for opportunities and activities that our Club can get involved in.

Steve Munday lead the Invocation with very timely and uplifting prayer
Mike Mutal lead the Pledge of Allegiance

President Kathryn officially started the 2021-2022 Rotary year.  She began by reminding us that these breakfast meetings can still be attended via Zoom as well as in person.  In fact, she welcomed several people on Zoom this morning.  Kathryn thanked Chas Wilson, Steve P., Don Rusnak and Tim Gray for making that all happen.  And, Leigh Seaton was thanked for spearheading the effort to find a new venue in which to hold these morning breakfast meetings.  More to follow on that.  She also thanked Evelyn and Tony for being such gracious hosts through such a difficult time.

Kathryn said that new committees are being formed so she asked that we all look for opportunities that might be of interest.  Lastly, she brought our attention to the buttons left on our tables.  A great way to advertise Rotary.

Carolyn Boucher reminded us that Team Ginny is available to speak at meetings, gatherings, etc. in order to get the word out.  She and Rocky Rhodes recently spoke at a Knights of Columbus meeting.  Please let Team Ginny know of any opportunities.
Laura Berger and Larry Borovay gave us an update.  Laura said that, in order to gain more ticket sales, they have included wine in the festivities.   She thanked Bill Fox for taking on the food vendor coordination, Deb Davila for coordination of the games and awards and Jeff Whipp along with Karen Thompson for resurrecting and using the Cajun banners.

Larry told us that the tickets will sell for $40 and will be going on sale shortly.  He said he'll need all of our help on the ticket sales and to please share your ideas - but just the good ones.

The 2021 Oktoberfest event is being held on Saturday, October 9th at the Rancho Simi Community Park, AKA the Duck Park.

Larry had previously mentioned that a German Oktoberfest Party Band, Hazelnuss Das Music, has been booked.  They specialize in Oktoberfest music. They will play for four hours and it will involve a lot of audience participation.

Save the date as volunteers will be needed.

Chas Wilson said that a vote will be held at next week's meeting for the election of a Club member to represent us with the Simi Sunrise Rotary Charitable Foundation.  Steve Munday currently holds that position.
Leigh
Ol' Man Seaton is at it again.  Leigh is working with Simi Rec and Park in cleaning up graffiti at Hummingbird Ranch and is looking for volunteers.  It is set for Saturday, July 17 at 8:00 AM.  See Leigh if you can help.
Mark Lowry, current past President of the Sunset Club, let us all know that his Club will be having Ventura County's new DA talk to his Club on July 27th.  See Mark if you're interested in attending.  Don't let his menacing posture throw you off.
Peter Cicciari
Peter Cicciari had the pleasure of recognizing two members with Paul Harris Fellows.  Both Stephanie Shannon and Leigh Seaton were honored.  This is Leigh's 8th.
Let Bill Klepper know if you're interested in this Golf Classic

We were pleased to have 15 past Simi Sunrise Club Presidents with us this morning.  14 were with us in person (shown above) with Mike McCaffrey joining by Zoom.  They each gave us some thoughts and remembrances from their time as President going all the way back to our charter President, Sal Falsulo from the early 80's.  Lots of years and lots of memories.

We are meeting at the Junkyard In Person on July 15th!  Remember you also have the option to attend by Zoom as well.

======================
Please remember to bring a friend or an acquaintance to our next meeting.  This is a GREAT way to grow our membership!  And the guest's lunch is taken care of.
