President Mike McCaffrey spoke about how the focus of Rotary for this month is saving mothers and children. He showed us an inspirational video about Midwives for Haiti. Haiti has the highest mother and infant mortality rate in the western hemisphere. Thanks to help from The Rotary Foundation, a jeep was provided so that Midwives for Haiti can now reach previously inaccessible villages to provide prenatal care. Mike reminded us that the Simi Valley Free Clinic also provides medical care to mothers and children and we can help by coming out to the new location (2003 Royal Ave.) on Saturday from 8am – 12pm to help take apart old cubicles.
Happy Face Clean-Up Recap
Bill Klepper thanked Bruce Bromberg with a hat for his help with the Happy Face Hill cleanup.

Cajun Banners
Dan Jaeger asked for club members to buy banners (he got quite a few!) and to refer others who might want to buy one.
Baseball Tournament - Calling all players
Jarrod Degonia announced that there is a Softball tournament coming up on May 11th. This is a Group 5 tournament. Rotarians and family 18 and older are invited to participate. Location is Santa Susana Park from 1-2pm.
Cajun Update
Stella Ortiz provided an update on Cajun. She showed off the logo hurricane cups that will be sold. Also, on May 4th, Vince Dulcich needs help manning the Cajun/Rotary booth at the Simi Valley Street Fair. Three people each for 4 shifts are needed. Please see Vince to sign up.
Cajun Discovery Stage
Dorina Timbol and Gregg Hartman talked about the return of the youth talent show to the Cajun Music Festival. Because the kids competing get into the festival for free, but families and friends must pay to attend, this will help increase ticket sales for the festival on both days. Another benefit to the club is that Simi Adventist Health increased their sponsorship this year by $6,000 because of our renewed focus on making this a family event. If anyone in the club knows of a talented young person (must be under 18 years), please send them to the next audition, which is this coming Saturday, 2pm – 5pm, at Platinum Sports.
Simi Sunset Raffle Tickets
Guest Dave Howe from the Sunset Club offered raffle tickets for a 7-day trip to London. Only 100 tickets to be sold, so the odds are great. Last year one of our club members won the raffle, so that must make us lucky! Tickets are $100 each.
