President Bill opened by welcoming Bob Bibb as our newest member. Welcome back Bob!
Bill then shared some quotes he has seen recently directed toward our Club having to do with the recent Happy Face Hill upgrade: "You guys rock"; "You guys are so much fun, when is the next one?"; Way to go, keep Simi beautiful"; Thank you Rotary for making it Happy again". Further to that, Bill reminded us all of other upcoming Service Projects such as the Bicycle Give-a-Way. He's not sure exactly how the logistics will work, but we'll figure it out.
Bill ended by thanking all of us for being part of such a dynamic Service Club!

Larry gave us an update. Ticket sales and sponsorships have now reached the point where we are now on the profit side of the event. But there are still more tickets and sponsorships available and Larry asked us all to continue to share the event on social media.
See Larry or Ryan with any questions and here's an opportunity to VOLUNTEER......
Halloween Drive-In Movie
The Halloween movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas, is still moving forward. More details to follow....
SEPTEMBER EVENT
Larry mentioned a potential September event with Ed Asner being featured again. Larry spoke about it with Ed's son, Matt, and it would involve working with Ed's center here in Simi.
HAPPY FACE HILL
A belated note about the work recently done on Happy Face Hill. On Saturday, July 25th, several of us, lead by Leigh Seaton, worked on Happy Face Hill in order to highlight the features more prominently. The results were quite dramatic. Take a look if you haven't already.
The crew lead by Leigh - Bill Klepper, Sue Klepper (not pictured), Ryan Valencia, John Bagnall and Matt Rowe.

HELP NEEDED WITH
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Jake Finch's Guest, Rayna Furman, let us know that school supplies are needed for the kids. Typically, these supplies are obtained at the schools but since Distance Learning is in place, that is not the case this year. More details to follow in regard to what type of supplies are needed. Please see Jake if you can help.
Peter Cicciari let us know that on July 31st, the World Health Organization announced that polio had been eradicated in Nigeria and that thanks should go out to The Rotary Foundation and Rotary International for their help in that eradication. To that end, Peter awarded two of our Club members with a Paul Harris Fellow today for their work with the Foundation. Don Schadt (on the left) was awarded a Plus 6 Pin and Dan Jaeger (in the middle) a Plus 3 Pin. Congratulations Don and Dan. Thanks for all you do!
RSVP Reminder
Just a reminder that it is helpful to let us know if you will be attending the Thursday morning meeting in person at the Junkyard. The RSVP count will dictate the number of chairs put out and the amount of food being prepared. Thanks!

New Member Proposal:
Think about who would make a good member!
=====================
Our Guest Speaker this week was Marcy Reed with Make-A-Wish Foundation
Marcy is new to the Foundation, having started in February, but it is quite evident that she has brought a lot of passion and energy to the organization.
Make-A-Wish was founded in 1980 in Phoenix as a result of a critically ill young person whose wish was to be Deputy Sheriff. That wish was fulfilled by the local Sheriff's office by making that young person an Honorary Sheriff. The TriCounty chapter that Marcy is in was founded in 1985. To date, about 1800 Wishes have been granted by the TriCounty chapter, averaging 70-80 Wishes a year. Wishes are granted to critically ill children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 18. These Wishes provide hope to not only the children but to the volunteers and parents as well. Oftentimes this hope is the turning point in their treatment and helps the children survive. She made the point that Make-a-Wish is not just for terminally ill children
Wishes are broken up into four categories:
- Wishes to go somewhere.
- Wishes to be something
- Wishes to have something
- Wishes to give something
The most popular Wish is to go somewhere like Disneyland or Disney World but the COVID virus has curtailed this activity and these Wishes are on hold right now. They are pivoting to "Have Wishes" such as a room makeover or help in becoming a YouTuber.
There are 135 children in the Wish pipeline right now. There have been 8 Wishes granted in Simi so far this year and anticipate granting 58 for the year with 50-55 next year. This is down from the previous yearly average due to the COVID virus.
Marcy ended by saying that all of the Wishes are funded by donations. They work with both large and small companies as well as individual volunteers, which they are always in need of. Many volunteers are either past Wish recipients or members of their families.
