President Deb Davila talked about how September is Basic Education and Literacy Month. She shared a Rotary video talking about education and highlighted all that our club does for education including providing scholarships for high school students, holding a book drive to collect more than 1,000 books for 400 local elementary school students and how last year our club was instrumental (thanks to Jake Finch and others) in assuring schools up in Northern California received more than 10,000 books (from SVUSD) to replenish libraries that had been destroyed in fires.
President Deb reminded us that next Thursday DG Savi Bhim will be visiting our club and that if possible everyone should wear our "uniform", which is khaki pants and a navy blazer.
STAR Program Next Week
President Deb said that next week's STAR meeting for newer members will take place during the Board Meeting since DG Savi Bhim will be coming to our club to speak and everyone should be there to hear what she has to say!
District 5240 Conference
President Deb is hoping that many of our club members will attend part of the upcoming District 5240 Conference planned for October 12th.  The information is below, but click on the link below for registration and more information.
Haunted House Volunteers Needed
Gregg Hartman talked about the need for volunteers as we are getting close to our opening weekend on September 20th.  He said only 20 people from the club have helped out over the past few weeks and that more need to be involved.  The haunted house will need 30-40 volunteers each night.

International Baccalaureate Program at Royal High
Kari Lev
We had the pleasure of learning about the Royal High School's International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, which began in 2014 from the Coordinator Kari Lev.
She talked about what the IB program is composed of, including a rigorous open-ended learning program that meets international standards and that teaches the whole student. Students develop not just their academic identities, but also better versions of themselves.
She also had three students (Samantha Ecsedy, Jamine Esmail and Mari Nasiry) talk about their experiences and what they hope to accomplish today and in the future.
