John Baxter brought two students Mack Fuhrman and Landen Burtchell, along with advisor Tammy Harter, all from Simi Valley High Schoo's HOSA - Health Occupations Students of America program to talk about a program they recently attended from the City of Hope called "Hope Experiment."

Rotary Foundation 100th Anniversary
Deb Davila talked about the fact that it is the 100th year celebration of the Rotary Foundation and that in honor of this milestone members are being asked to donate $26.50. This number represents the initial deposit made to the Rotary Foundation. See Deb to donate.
YES! - Youth Empowerment Summit
Demi Fox talked about this year's YES!, which will be held Saturday, November 12th. Keep that date open because many volunteers will be needed!
Relay for Life - October 1 and 2
Doug Feco talked about this year's Relay for Life and emphasized how cancer has touched everyone of us in this club. We are hosting our own team and are looking for everyone to fill a spot. Luminaries are also for sale to honor people at $10 each. The event is a 24-hour held at Lemon Park.
Sam Wolfe talked about the need for volunteers for our Tierra Rejada Clean Up day planned for this Saturday, September 24th. The other clubs in our district are also participating but we need more members from our club to sign up! Sign up sheets are on the table. See the flyer in this bulletin for more information.
Family of Rotary
Pam Perry reminded everyone that B.J. and her husband Ken will host the first Family of Rotary Gourmet dinner this Saturday, September 24. They will provide the entree and dessert and everyone else can either bring an appetizer, salad or side dish.
Hats, Sunscreen and Sunglasses Needed
Bill Klepper said he is collecting the above items for Tom Marsh who will be making a trip to Tanzania in October. These items are needed for the high population of albinos in that country. In Tanzania, albinos represent one in every 1429 births, a much higher rate than in any other nation.

We had the pleasure of hearing from Terry Marvin, a board member for Soaring Spirits International. Soaring Spirits has one goal; to connect widowed people with each other. To date there are more than 3 million people involved. Their mantra is -- Hope Matters.
She shared details about an upcoming event -- Share the Road Ride - which will be held on Saturday, October 8th.

There have been only 19 cases this year of Polio due to the wild polio virus. They have all occurred in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The most recent case was 4 weeks ago. Click on the link below for more information.
