President Bill used this time to induct our newest member, Ms. Camille Cordova.  As is fairly typical for our Club members, Camille was a Rotarian at heart before she became a Rotarian.  She gives back to the community in many ways and gives service above and beyond.

John Tolson gave us some background on Camille noting that she was raised in Venice Beach and has been in Simi now for 19 years.  She is a competetive dancer (Salsa and Swing) and a dog lover owning two dogs, Martini and Olive.  Only a dog lover would have names like that!  Welcome Camille and we look forward to your participation.

Next week's meeting is a Board Meeting which will be on Zoom.  Please join us if you can.
Congratulations Camille!

We've been a roll as of late with New Member inductions.  Congratulations to all who have contributed to this very important task.

District 5240 Virtual Conference
A reminder regarding the upcoming Rotary District 5240 Virtual Conference.  Hopefully, you are planning on participating.

Here's the Link to sign up:
Karen Thompson gave us an update on Team Ginny.  Unfortunately, none of the volunteers that had been going through the vetting process were a match.  So we need to redouble our efforts in finding this matching donor for Ginny.  Karen challenged us all to all take a flyer with us today and have your picture taken with it where you have it posted. And then share this on Facebook.  She also encouraged us all to continue to Share, Share and Share and spread the word.

Here's a link to a Testimonial from Rocky and Tony....
Larry Borovay and Greg Gonzales gave as an update on the last Drive In movie of the year.  Love the outfit by the way Greg.  Did you end up wearing that all day?  Tickets are selling fast.  In fact, over 15% were sold the first day they went on sale so we do expect another sell out.  If you are planning on attending it would be wise to buy your tickets sooner rather than later.

To purchase tickets use this LINK

It is confirmed that Ed Asner will be joining us yet again.  We must not have scared him off the last time.  In appreciation of his attendance, the proceeds from the sale of 10 tickets will be donated to the Ed Asner Family Center.  Movie posters autographed by Ed will be made available.

As soon as Bill said that we were looking for VIP sponsors for this event, a slew of hands immediately popped up which is pretty typical of the Sunrise Club.  Some, but not all of this group included Don Schadt, , Geovanney Ragsdale, Demi Fox, Camille Cordova, Rich Perrini, Mary Paseta, Karen Thompson and Deb Davila.  What Community Spirit!

To Be a VIP...email Bill at  bill@goklepper.com. ..simply say Yes....and John will bill you the 100 dollars...VIP parking...Name up in lights...and Popcorn!  What a deal!
Please keep in mind that we are still in need of volunteers for the upcoming Senior Center Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday the 25th, the day before Thanksgiving.  As noted before, it will be a Drive Thru event with the Drive Thru times being 4:30, 6 and 7 pm.  The Y's Men will once again take care of the grilling starting at 6:30 am.  The seasoning of the turkeys will take place at Monte Vista the night before on Tuesday the 24th. Thanks Dr. P!

A Sign Up Sheet is provided below in the "Extra! Extra! Read All About It!" section at the end of the Bulletin.  This will give you an idea of the type of help needed and if you can help, here's Sophie's contact info:

You can contact Sophie at 805.400.7709 or email her at:

Sophie.Klepper20@gmail.com

Please keep in mind that it is very important that we have an accurate volunteer count beforehand due to the Senior Center requirements so if you are planning on volunteering
PLEASE SIGN UP AHEAD OF TIME.

As a reminder, we are working on having the The Ranch radio program broadcast live from the Senior Center in order to provide the musical entertainment.  To do that, we need On Air Sponsors to offset the cost.  These sponsors and their businesses would be heavily promoted during the event.  To become an On Air Sponsor please email Thomas Herdering at

REMINDER
FM Radio "Drive-in" Capability for Simi Sunrise
Please remember that you can now sit safely in your car and simply tune to 88.9 on the FM dial and listen to our outdoor meetings.  You will clearly hear the audio from our entire meeting in the Junkyard parking lot.
As per the By-Laws of the Club, Dan Jaeger, our Parliamentarian, made the announcement regarding our President-Elect for the 2022-2023 year.  It was with great pleasure that he forwarded Laura Berger's name, a position that is well deserved by Laura.  Congratulations!

Dan also announced that additional names will be taken from the floor as well as within two weeks from today.
Congratulations Laura, well deserved!

SANTA SUSANA FILMFEST
Tim Gray reminded us about the upcoming Filmfest we are co-sponsoring with Santa Susana High School on Friday, November 20th.  This event will need volunteers and sponsors so please see Tim if you can help out.
Leigh Seaton has arranged for a Blood Drive on December 3 here at the Junkyard.  Please see Leigh to sign up.

Leigh, along with John Tolson, also announced that the Samaritan Center here in Simi will start operation of its overnight Homeless Shelter for men on December 1st and will stay open until around March of next year.  They will be  needing assistance with overnight monitoring and have asked for our help.  This would involve spending the night at the shelter with one other chaperone and overseeing up to 8 men.  They need this to be done on Wednesday nights from 7 PM until 7 AM the following morning.  If there are not enough chaperones on hand, the men are turned away.  If you can help out, please contact either John or Leigh.

Ventura County Chapter
of
Bikers Against Child Abuse
(B.A.C.A.)

We had a very interesting presentation given to us today by members of the Ventura County Chapter of B.A.C.A.  Its an organization many of us weren't aware of but the service they provide is a gift from heaven.  They were founded in 1995 in Provo, Utah and are now world wide.  They are in 48 states, Canada, 15 countries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The members come from all walks of life and are all volunteers.  The two things they have in common is a love of motorcycles and motorcycle clubs and a hatred of child abuse.  It is a year long, stringent process to become a member having to complete, among other things, a thorough background check.  They emphasized that they are not a vigilante group,  nor are they counselors, therapists, or a support group for the family.  They exist to the empower an abused child to not live in fear in the world in which they reside.

A child is referred to them by a parent or legal guardian or from a governmental agency.  Both the parent (or legal guardian) and the child must both want B.A.C.A.'s involvement.  Once that is taken care of an initial Level 1 meeting is held with the parent, child and the local chapter at a safe and secure place.  The whole chapter shows up at the meeting which involves a lot of motorcycles and leather, a very powerful experience for the child.  In that meeting, the child gets a road name, a vest, a blanket and a bear, which every member hugs, along with two primary contacts. These contacts are available 24/7.  This child remains a B.A.C.A. child until they are no longer afraid.

Other duties involve escorting the child to court and, if necessary, providing what is referred to as Level 2 security.  This is triggered if the child is in imminent danger.

Here's their Mission Statement:

Bikers Against Child Abuse, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children.  We exist as a body of Bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live.  We stand ready to lend support to our wounded friends by involving them with an established, united organization.  We work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children.  We desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that this child is part of our organization , and that we are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by affiliation, and our physical presence.  We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse.  We do not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner, however, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be that obstacle.

After listening to this group talk, it seems like this Mission Statement pretty much sums up what they are all about.

They ended the talk by letting us know about how we, as Rotarians can help.  The answer was that in our roles in the community, we are exposed to many facets of people's lives.  Due to this exposure, we have the opportunity of having first hand knowledge of a child being abused.  This is especially true during these Covid times.  If we see something, say something.
