Welcome back to our first In Person meeting we've had in a while!  It was nice to be among living, breathing human beings as opposed to looking at a computer screen.  Lots of good energy!  As President Kathryn said though, while the move to virtual meetings certainly wasn't desirable, it was necessary.  Let's hope that all of the covid trend lines continue their downward trajectory and we can continue with our In Person meetings.

Stephanie brought the first In Person meeting we've had in a while to order.  Following are her comments:

February kicks off Peace and Conflict Prevention Month and I’m excited to hear from our guest speaker Elvis Tognia today about “Living a Purpose Driven Life” because these two important principles likely intertwine.
As Rotarians we have been proud of Rotary being based on peace building in all that we do.
If you read this month’s Ubuntu issue that came out a couple of days ago,  you could see all of the effort and impacts that Rotary has made around the world to support and emphasize peace beginning in 1921 when we agreed to incorporate peacemaking into Rotary’s constitution and by-laws. Please take the time to read the issue.
We work hard as we serve to change lives and our peacebuilding efforts have allowed us to positively impact so many people and contribute toward a peace-based world. I would like to share a quote from the Ubuntu issue, Arch Klumph, the Father of The Rotary Foundation said in 1921, “Rotary is not a university and yet it has an educational task to perform, and that task is to divert the world mind to thoughts of friendly cooperation.”

President Kathryn Scroggin

President Kathryn, borrowing from the Saturday Night Live opening, announced that she was Live from Simi Valley this morning!  Again, lots of energy in the room.

She reminded us that next week is a virtual Board meeting and that no regular meeting will be held.  She also said she spoke to Leigh Seaton and he sent his best wishes.

This month, as noted, is Peace and Conflict Prevention Month so she ended with a quote from Mother Teresa:

"Peace begins with a smile".

Kathryn asked us all to smile at someone and give them peace

Gary White lead this morning's Invocation with a warning - he said be prepared to be amazed.  He didn't disappoint.

Dan Jordan lead the Flag Salute.  It's nice to hear the Pledge said in sync as opposed to the 30 odd versions you hear on Zoom all at once.

Mel Vines welcomed our Special Guest, Ms. Shannon Cochran to our meeting.  Shannon is here with Dorina.

Harvey Mahler, left, was our Greeter this morning.  He's manning his station along with Steve Hise who is checking everyone in.

Dorina had the honor of presenting our newest member, Dan Jordan, with his first Paul Harris award.  Dan exemplifies the attributes associated with being a Paul Harris Fellow and has proved a great addition to the Club.  Congratulations Dan!

Kathryn reminded us about the upcoming Rotary International Convention being held in Houston from June 4th through the 8th this year.  Kathryn encouraged those that can to accompany Laura to this world wide event.

Kathryn borrowed an idea from the Solvang Rotary Club and handed out an invitation card - see below.  She has challenged us all to utilize this card and invite at least one person to a Rotary meeting.  The card is great in that it gives a quick overview of what we are all about.

Carolyn also had a great idea along this same line.  She suggested to those with a business and employees to reward a top performing employee with an invitation to one of our meetings. Great idea!

Bill Klepper, pictured above, is organizing our next Bolio event.  Mark your calendars for April 10th at Harley's Valley Bowl.  Bill said that teams are being formed and that Special Olympic kids will be participating.  A very good cause and a great opportunity to show your stuff.  And, if you don't have stuff to show, the worst score will be rewarded.

So the gentleman pictured above in the purple jumpsuit complained about the reference to Bill.  In order to fend off a lawsuit, Bill's true likeness is shown above.

Tim Gray and Larry Borovay spoke a little bit more about the upcoming Music Festival.

To recap, The theme is Music to Make You Smile and it's either being called the Happy Face Music Festival or the Happy Face Hill Music Festival.  It will be held on Saturday, May 28th which is Memorial Day weekend.  It will be a half day event at the Rancho Simi Park with no more than 2000 tickets being sold at $50 per ticket.  It will follow a minimal concept with Food, Alcohol (both beer and wine), and Entertainment provided with only those 21 and over being admitted.

Things are moving along nicely.  Larry said that we have 15 musical groups on our radar and are waiting to hear on a couple of offers.  Larry needs to fill 3 spots and hopes to make an announcement on the headliner next week

Martha Macker is planning a Family of Rotary event on February 10th at the Junkyard.  It will start at 5:30 with Kathryn hosting with some appetizers.  Martha said it would be helpful if she could get a head count so please RSVP if you can.  Bring a friend, spouse or partner and Valentine's Day will be celebrated.

John Bagnall is involved with the For The Troops organization.  They prepare Kits for Service Members. John brought these Kits with him to our meeting this morning.  He needs help in writing notes on the Kits for the recipients.  Once you have written the note, please return the Kit to John.  This will take a few weeks (he has 600 of them) so grab some Kits at the next meeting if you didn't get any today.

Carolyn Boucher encouraged us all to post the new Team Ginny flyer all over town.  If you have a business, post it there!

As noted last week, the Team Ginny effort is being turbo charged on several new fronts she said, including this new flyer.  She has car magnets coming out and Sophie Klepper is retooling the social media outreach.  Carolyn is NOT giving up and is making sure the message is not being lost.  She noted that a person had stepped forward recently but, unfortunately, was not a match.

Carolyn's challenge to us all is to find one person you have not spoken to about Ginny's need and speak to them.

Mr. Elvis Tognia spoke to us today about Living a Purpose Driven Life.  Mr. Tognia is a Confidence and Empowerment Coach and author of Rise To Your Best Life and Light Up Your Life.  He's also founder of Africa U Can, a non-profit organization with the mission to inspire, motivate and empower the youth of Africa to build hope and create a vision to live to their full potential.

He is from Cameroon originally and described a very humble childhood marked by a lack of running water, electricity and food.  He expressed sincere gratitude for what he has accomplished and lives to help those in need.  His message is to live a life of Purpose, Passion and Contribution, words that mean something to a Rotarian.

======================
Looks like we hit the trifecta today - No celebrations!  We still had  the music though thank goodness.
Nope, no birthdays and.....
...no Wedding anniversaries either......
....as well as no Club anniversaries!

======================
Next week, February 10th, is a virtual Board meeting so NO REGULAR MEETING!

======================
Please remember to bring a friend or an acquaintance to our next meeting.  This is a GREAT way to grow our membership!  And the guest's breakfast is taken care of.
