This month is Literacy month. Doug highlighted the youth, and all that our club does for them. Wheelchairs, fighting disease and starvation, clean water, building schools so that kids have the opportunity for education. Our club has given dictionaries, iPads, free dental exams, 4 way test essays, YES, and RYLA. We are giving our youth every opportunity for them to have a favorable start with their education.

PROGRAM
Edgar Valdivia
California Rare Fruits
Edgar is a native of Peru. After moving to the United States and settling in Simi Valley, he ran a successful computer company.
At retirement, he wanted to find something to do that he loved, that kept him active. Horticulture provides him with pleasure and relaxation. He says, we only have one life to live, so why not do something we love?
He began working in his garden, growing rare fruits such as the Dragon Fruit. Through experimentation and hybridization, he made the fruit sweeter and more colorful. He calls it "Edgar's baby". He can take a section of a plant and turn it into 1000 plants!
This fruit is now planted on 600 acres, which brings the price down. He donates all of his profits to children in South America.
